Paranoia. We've all had a dose of it at one time or another, and in small doses it's not unhealthy... in small doses...

What I find sad though, is when an entire country suffers from it. And yes... the United States is a very paranoid nation. Fear is a powerful motivator. It makes people act rashly, without ever questioning. It can even be used to persuade an entire nation to start a 'pre-emptive' war without any basis in logic or reason, and then sacrifice their civil liberties... without ever questioning. hmmmm.....

Yeah... it is kind of depressing. And yes, I have seen it. Great film... :) Have you ever read 1984? Or better yet, 'A Brave New World'? They're both fictional works, but with a message that is very relevant to today's society.

That's America in a nutshell, all right. Why on earth is the "strongest" country in the world the most fearful? I've never understood that. There's not much difference between a fortress and a prison, as you make clear.
